Inonotus obliquus
Chaga is a parasitic fungus that grows primarily on birch trees, from which it derives key compounds such as betulin and betulinic acid. Increasing global demand has resulted in widespread overharvesting in Europe and North America, and so to support sustainability, MycoNutri™ Chaga is wild-harvested by trained gatherers in the forests of Siberia.
Chaga exhibits strong antioxidant activity, supported by its complex profile of phenols, beta-glucans and triterpenoids.
Each Chaga takes more than 15 years to mature, developing both a dark, melanin-rich outer crust and a golden inner core, together providing a full spectrum of beta-glucans, triterpenes and phenolic compounds.
MycoNutri™ Chaga is responsibly wild-harvested dual extract from mature Inonotus obliquus conks growing on birch trees in the forests surrounding Lake Baikal, Siberia.
The harvested part of Chaga is the sterile conk (sclerotium), which then undergoes a two-stage extraction process. First, using ethanol to extract the triterpenes and phenolics, followed by hot-water extraction to obtain high levels of polysaccharides, resulting in an extract containing over 30% beta-glucans and 3% triterpenes.
