Ingredients -
Hypericum perforatum (St John’s Wort) extract 125 mg
derived from min. herb top flowering dry 750 mg
standardised to contain hypericin 375 µg
equiv. to flavonoid glycosides 7.5 mg
Schisandra chinensis (Schisandra) extract 112.5 mg
derived from fruit dry 675 mg
Scutellaria lateriflora (Skullcap) extract 1 mL
derived from herb top dry 500 mg
Crocus sativus (Saffron) extract 7.5 mg
derived from stigma dry 22.5 mg
Warnings, Cautions and Contraindications -
- St John’s Wort affects the way many prescription medicines work, including the oral contraceptive pill. Ensure patient speaks with their doctor about contraceptive requirements.
- Do not use if pregnant or likely to become pregnant.
- Caution is advised in breastfeeding/lactation.
- May cause hyperaesthesia in some sensitive individuals especially when combined with a high exposure to sunlight.
- St John’s Wort is not advisable in cases of known photosensitivity and in those taking photosensitising drugs. Patients taking high doses should avoid excessive exposure to sunlight and UV radiation.
- As Schisandra may accelerate clearance of the drugs from the body, caution is advised prescribing herbs for patients taking drugs with a narrow therapeutic window, including warfarin and digoxin.
- Concurrent administration of high doses of St John’s Wort is contraindicated with the following drugs: warfarin, digoxin, immunosuppressive drugs such as cyclosporin, indinavir (HIV protease inhibitor), nevirapine (HIV non-nucleoside transcriptase inhibitor), docetaxel by injection, clozapine, phenprocoumon, methadone, finasteride, voriconazole, cancer chemotherapeutic drugs such as irinotecan and calcium channel antagonists such as nifedipine and verapamil. Caution is advised in patients taking other drug medications.
- Consume at least 2 hours away from ingestion of mineral supplements.
- Discontinue 7 days prior to general anaesthesia.
